Some of
the toughest choices that Brides and Grooms face can be the
song selections for the highlighted aspects and dances of
their wedding. With the advent of the competition style talent
shows, such as Fox's "American Idol" you do not
have to look any further than Prime Time to find that special
song for your first dance, or any other special dance for
your wedding.
In fact,
television has played a significant role with couples to
pick their wedding music for quite some time. From Rubin
Studdard's "Flying Without Wings" to Elvis Presley's
rendition of "Memories", television shows have
been featuring and promoting music that can be used for moments
at weddings. Here are just a few examples:
· One
of the biggest songs in 2002 for weddings was Kelly Clarkson's "A
Moment Like This". Clarkson's hit, which was featured
on Fox's "American Idol" has become a favorite
for first dances among brides. With the recent release of "Flying
Without Wings" from this year's winner Rubin Studdard, "American
Idol" has produced two excellent choices for special
moments at weddings.
· The
NBC Thursday Night drama "ER" helped promote Don
Henley's hit "Taking You Home" during the Such
Sweet Sorrow episode in 2000, which was Julianna Marguiles'
last appearance on the show. Additionally, Isreal Kamakawiwole's
version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" has been
a great alternative for couple looking for a unique some
for that special moment, or as inspiration for couples choosing
a tropical theme for their wedding.
This concept
of music promotion on television is not a new concept. Television
shows have been promoting music for many years. More ideas
for good music choices can be found on television shows from
yesterday, many of which can be found in syndication, or
on cable channels such as "Nick At Night's TV Land". .
· The
final episode of the ABC hit sitcom "Happy Days" was
actually the wedding of Joni Cunningham (played by Erin Moran)
and Chachi Aercola (Scott Baio). The final moments featured
a from various episodes set to Elvis Presley's version of "Memories" which
is still a popular song for Parent Dances.
· Remember
Murphy Brown? If you followed the CBS sitcom, you know that
Murphy Brown, played by Candace Burgen, was a big Motown
Fan. On one episode, when Murphy's baby was keeping her up
all night, Barry Manilow's music was the only cure to get
her baby to fall asleep. Manilow's cameo on the show featured
a song called "You Are My Child", which has become
another popular choice for Parent Dances.
· Recently,
at a wedding of couple with 3 children each, the Bride and
Groom chose to be introduced to the theme from "The
Brady Bunch". Television theme's such as "The Honeymooners" and
even "The Tonight Show Theme" are great songs to
introduce your Bridal Party.
You never
know
the next time you see a television wedding, you
may just be introduced to a new songs that is a perfect fit
for your own "star studded" wedding.
